Fourth scheduled large concrete pour completed last week. Now that this summer’s massive concrete pours are over, Palm Beach residents can expect to see buildings start to spring up at the historic Testa’s site. Workers are now pouring the columns for one building and laying block for another, said Cody Crowell, managing director of construction for the Frisbie Group, which is developing the site at 227 Royal Poinciana Way. “Our goal now is to make as much progress as we can before the season so when people come back they will start to see [three of the six] buildings mature,” he said last week.

She also serves as president of the Palm Beach Board of Realtors. In addition to presenting second-quarter sales figures, the Frisbie report noted that real estate activity last year “evidenced a record performance for Palm Beach.” The report mentioned increases recorded in 2017 for dollar volume, number of transactions, average prices and median prices. “The first half of 2018’s data suggests a continuation of this positive direction, and barring political upheavals, a global trade war or an unforeseen event, we predict the balance of 2018 will continue its forward trend,” the report said.

Plantation-based Coastal Risk Consulting was hired by Frisbie Group in Palm Beach to provide sea-level rise projections before it built its retail, restaurant and condo project on Royal Poinciana Way at a higher elevation than the town required, said Cody Crowell, Frisbie’s managing director. The company reviews projections for 50 years out before green-lighting plans in coastal areas. “Being on the water isn’t necessarily a risk if you are building to the highest standards,” Crowell said. “It’s when you are not building to the highest standards and the right elevations that there is a risk.” U.S. coastal flooding occurred at record levels last year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It warns that sea-level rise, driven largely by global warming, will worsen flooding in coastal areas in the coming decades...

Workers are using a roughly 80-foot-tall auger pile to drill below the water table and pour an underground mat. That concrete platform ranges from 6½ to 8 feet thick and will form the base of the foundation for a parking basement on the 1.3-acre site at 221 Royal Poinciana Way.

A restaurant serving French-inspired fare is expected to open in the former Nick & Johnnie’s space on Royal Poinciana Way in mid-January — another new destination in an area undergoing a dining revival.
The restaurant, which will be called Maven, is a collaboration between Nantucket restaurateur David Silva, chef W. Scott Osif and director of operations Kevin Anderson, according to a news release from the Frisbie Group, developer of the site.
